Te Whetumarama is motivated to give back to whānau, iwi and hāpori, having been raised and educated in te ao Māori. He is passionate about his cultural identity as a tool to help navigate his way of life, and support the wellbeing of our people. Currently studying a Bachelors of Bicultural Social Work, under the guidance of Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Te Whetumarama is dedicated to gaining the tools to provide best practice in his mahi.

Te Whetumarama has a background in Rugby League, Mau Rākau, Waka Ama, and Basketball. He is motivated by the important values of sports as they deliver life skills and experience to support the wellbeing of whānau. His passion lies in utilising the fundamentals of Hākinakina Māori, as a mechanism to explore cultural knowledge through the methods of our ancestors.

The empowerment of cultural values and principles have laid the foundations that are installed in Te Whetumarama. He explores the growth and development of whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga as a tool to engage with whānau respectfully – providing support and enhancing the pursuit of Mauri Ora.
